Library – Maker Space
Librarians Maureen Barclay and Dani Long began planning a MakerSpace in April 2022. We were inspired by LASL conference presenters, and we put our resourcefulness to great use in this project! We completed construction on the MakerSpace room where our mobile storage (formerly a bookshelf on casters!) displays items for student use and provides students with work space, work benches, tools, a painted green screen wall, and white boards to plan and build their designs.
With support from DonorsChoose, district Teacher Technology, our own local funds, and some old-fashioned elbow grease, we have remodeled and stocked the MakerSpace with materials and equipment to support innovation in engineering design and the arts. We have two 3D printers for student use!
Lunch & Learn
Librarians and student artists lead monthly workshops about designing custom t-shirts, crochet, 3D printing and weaving bracelets. The library provides all materials at no charge!
Maker Fair
We hosted the first annual Shreve Maker Fair in the library Wednesday, April 12, 2023 and continue to hold this event in April each year.
The event showcased 24 Shreve creators, designers, innovators, artists, and entrepreneurs. It was great to see students showing off their talent!! They were so proud and we could see their confidence grow more and more as visitors came through the event. Speaking publicly about their craft was a good learning experience for these young entrepreneurs, designers and artists.
Student displays included 3D Design and printing, sewing & fashion, painting, crochet, charcoal, and custom Vinyl T-shirts. We will also kept our Shreve Library Maker Space items on display and offered some demonstrations. More than 100 students visited on each lunch shift. The library was buzzing!
