Captain Shreve High School was opened in the fall of 1967. The school was named for Captain Henry Miller Shreve, who was responsible for clearing the log jam on the Red River, which led to the founding of Shreveport in 1835. Captain Shreve is one of the largest high schools in Shreveport with an enrollment of over 1,500 students.

• 2015 April – Head football coach Richard Lary dies suddenly of a heart attack. Tributes pour in from around the city and the nation celebrating the impact Lary had on the lives of his many students and athletes.
  
  

• 2015 July – Long-time principal Dr. Sandra McCalla announces her pending retirement. McCalla came to Captain Shreve as a teacher in 1967 and broke down barriers as the first female high school principal in Caddo Parish when she took the reigns from Stanley Powell in 1979. The impact McCalla had on students and fellow educators over her half-century in education was reflected in all the fond memories and well-wishes that poured in as she turned control of the school over to Ginger Gustavson in October 2015.
