The Captain Shreve High School Teen Book Club held the first meeting of the year. In our August meeting we talked about the nonfiction title Shackled, A Tale of Wronged Kids, Rogue Judges, and a Town that Looked the Other Way, by Candy J. Cooper. This is one of the 5 titles on this year's Battle of the Books team list, in addition to 4 other LTRC book titles. Book club monthly members talked about the October Book Fair — an event where students present book and literacy related topics to guest judges and earn recognition and prizes, much like social studies fair, and our requirements for earning a place on our Battle of the Books team. Our book clubbers enjoyed lunch, Mrs. Long's homemade brownies, and everyone took home a free LTRC book of their choice, compliments of community supporters and DonorsChoose.org.

Interested Shreve students: You can become a monthly member of our Book Club anytime during the school year! Our qualifying deadline for the next Book Club meeting is Friday, September 11!

To receive an invitation to a monthly meeting, you must complete 1 of the following activities by the monthly qualifying deadline:
• Pass the AR Test for one of the LTRC 2027 books (see list of 10 on our Canvas page.)
• Don't like AR Tests? Create a video book talk on a LTRC 2027 book OR write a book review (these earn additional membership points). Post on Canvas module assignment. Book Talk Video & Book Review Requirements and Template. Follow these requirements to earn points. Submissions that do not meet all requirements will not earn points. Read Book Talk and Book Review requirements here:

The CSHS Library hosted a lunch and learn event in August for students to create original canvas sticker collages. Students painted canvases, covered silhouette designed they selected with fun, colorful stickers, cut their silhouette and pasted it to their canvas. Colors, silhouettes, and stickers represent each student's unique personality. Students can hang their collage on walls, doors, or prop on shelves. All materials and supplies were provided by the library Maker Space through community donations and grants like DonorsChoose.org. Lunch and learn events are FREE to Captain Shreve students and are offered each month through Canvas Global announcement sign-ups. The September 17 Lunch and Learn event is Custom Beaded Key Chain/ Backpack Pulls. See the Canvas Global Announcements for sign up information.
